A colleague asked me an interesting question today. Well, sort of interesting. Interesting enough for this blog.
Whatever happened to Shaggy, the "boombastic" pseudo-dancehall rapper? Turns out he had an album last year featuring G-Unit's Olivia, a Pussycat Dolls member and, um, will.i.am.
I told the colleague that she should just check out Sean Paul, who seems to be the modern-day equivalent, right? But then she started asking if Spanish-language rappers or black rappers have dirtier lyrics, so I don't know if she's really cut out for this stuff.
Umm...it's the spanish language rappers right? Apparently, Spanish language morning "zoo crews" have the edge in bawdiness over their english counterparts. See here
ReplyDeleteIn my experience, Spanish-language rap is more sexually explicit and English-language rap depicts more violence. The crossover between the two, regrettably, appears to be mixing a bit of the sex and violence together.
ReplyDeleteDead right about the Spanish-language radio shows. I'm shocked (and totally amused) by the some of the stuff they say here in Dallas.
