Waking Ear

We have a pact, you and I. I write down what song I had in my head when I woke up in the morning. And, maybe, why. You click on "What's in your waking ear?" and tell me what's in your head right now. We discover new music and maybe learn something about how our minds work. Yeah?

Schmubb

Okay, so I know that Phant already posted today, but I have nothing to say about Morrissey except that I really think that he's a deranged lunatic. So, in complete Schmubby style, I am going to change the subject to something that I want to talk about. I promise that it won't be sappy (please note almost every post Phant has published since his recent engagement) (please also note that I am happy for the both of them..yea! Go "Team Ball and Chain") ( and lastly note that the name 'Team Ball and Chain' is not a derogatory remark, simply in jest, I don't want to step on any toes, or feet, or clams, whatever you call them.) Okay, where was I? Oh, yes, my post about something not sappy. I would like to discuss the songs of the year so far. I always like hearing Paul and Paz's selections, so hopefully they will comment. Uus, comments....mmmm...par. Phant of course has good songs except the ones done by that artist whose first name is Marshall...there are a few, apply where you see fit. So far this year has been a dud for me. Not that the music is any less than par, but I haven't REALLY GOTTEN INTO A FUCKING ALBUM, MAN! There are a few songs that I believe make the cut of excellence with a seal of Schmubby approval. This seal does not do any tricks with a beach ball, but has been known to swim with remarkable speed.

1) The Walkmen- "The Rat"- fastest, greatest song this year. Just powerful.
2) Modest Mouse- "Bukowski"- Paul's favorite song this year, I am sure. Just has some great licks and lines....could've been an Ugly Cassanova song though.
3) The French Kicks- "One More Time". Harmonies galore! Love it!
4) Franz Ferdinand- "Jacqueline" -obvious choice...but aren't all mine so far?
5) The Streets- "Dry Your Eyes, Mate"- okay...I cried...I admit it. BUT SO DID YOU DAMNIT!

That's what I got so far. How about all you Yardbirds?

Comments:
I second Ambulance Ltd. Like that album a lot. But nothing's really seized me in its tight grip either. Except for You Are the Quarry. But we're not supposed to be talking about that. Oh yeah, I also thought the Loretta Lynn album was really, really cool. And Kanye.

Sorry to disappoint, but I've been so out of it musically this year, I just bought Kanye 2 weeks ago for godsakes. I've been feelling musically nostalgic of late as well.
