But in this chart hit, Mario Winans sings over the same beat the Fugees used in "Ready Or Not" a decade ago, y'know, back when Enya almost sued them for using her voice without her permission. The same exact beat! It just doesn't seem right.
But I'll give Winans credit in this sense: in the Fugees' song, Enya's voice sounded ominous and scary. She was coming to get you. You couldn't hide. But under Winan's pouty tenor, Enya sounds sad and wistful. It's a neat trick to show how a few minor adjustments can change the beat's tone completely.

This song ("Call me trouble man, I always in trouble man," etc.) has some sort of hidden power, or life force, if you will. I can't understand or express the joy I feel when T.I. claims he's wild as the Taliban. It just doesn't make sense. And the college marching band beat... it's just too much.

"The Rat" -The Walkmen
Phant came to me about a month and a half ago and told me that this song was unbelievable. I had heard if faintly from my computer speakers while listening to KEXP at work. I believe Phant said it was the best song that had been released in 2004 up until then. I wholeheartedly agree with that claim. I don't know what it is about the song that makes it so amazing. The elements that stick out to me are the soaring guitar strummed at one hundred miles an hour, the military drumming that reminds me of "Sunday Bloody Sunday", and the amazing vocals that come out of Hamilton's throat. Whatever it is, it has been stuck in my head daily, at least a bit, since I first heard it. It is stuck in my head again today. My question to all y'all is:
Is there a better song released so far this year?
P.S. Thanks to all who wished Bri-ness and I a happy engagement. It has definitly been wonderful and I expect it to continue that way through the hitching process...

Girlfriend and I went to Coachella, got within spitting distance of Dizzee Rascal and got a bumper sticker from Murs, who is just a really decent guy. We also saw lots of other bands, and many were good.
Schmubb got engaged. To be married. So congratulate him, everyone.
Chelle has no excuse; she just hasn't posted the last two weeks. For shame.
Back into the swing of things on Monday. For now, have a great weekend.
